High-Precision Workcell Architecture

Electronic housings and PCB assemblies require strict electrostatic discipline, fine line fidelity, and zero mechanical deflection:

  • Electrostatic Neutralisation & Ionisation: Equipped with integrated ionizing blowers and static-dissipative silicone pads, neutralising surface charges before and after pad release to prevent component ESD damage.
  • Micro-Resolution Steel & Polymer Clichés: Laser-etched hardened steel plates (58–60 HRC) and precision photopolymer clichés deliver consistent ink deposit depth for complex schematics, pinout diagrams, and serial blocks.
  • Hermetic Magnetic Sealed Ink Cups: Ring-sealed cups eliminate solvent fumes, prevent viscosity spikes in climate-controlled clean environments, and maintain razor-sharp printing edges across multi-shift production runs.
High-Fidelity Tooling

Micro-Marking Silicone Pads

Specialised compound silicone geometries tailored for planar electronics and recessed keypads:

  • Fine Edge Definition: High-elasticity formulations stop feathering on 0.5pt lines
  • Antistatic Properties: ESD-safe compounds dissipate charge build-up safely
  • Zero Air Trap: Optimized apex angles cleanly navigate stepped housing cavities

Technical Guidance & FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: Electronic Device Pad Printing

How do you prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging populated circuit boards?

Standard silicone pads can generate significant triboelectric static charges during separation from the printing plate and part. For electronics assemblies and PCBs, we supply ESD-safe conductive silicone pads alongside inline point-of-print de-ionisation air bars. This continuously neutralises electrostatic potentials to well within sensitive component thresholds.

Can pad printing produce readable QR codes, Data Matrix codes, and micro-text?

Yes. By pairing micro-etched steel clichés (using high-lpi screen textures) with ultra-dense, fast-releasing silicone pads, Kent pad printers produce razor-sharp 2D Data Matrix codes, scannable QR symbols, and legible technical text down to 0.75pt with zero ink bridging.

Will the printed markings survive circuit board defluxing and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe-downs?

Yes. We formulate and test 2-component industrial inks (such as Coates TP series) combined with chemical-resistant aliphatic hardeners. Once fully cured or heat-accelerated, the cross-linked ink barrier easily withstands repeated IPA wipe tests, ultrasonic flux washing, synthetic oils, and mechanical abrasion.

How do you support fragile, thin-walled plastic enclosures during the printing stroke?

Thin-walled electronic enclosures can easily flex under printing pressure, causing distorted graphics or internal clip breakage. We manufacture bespoke CNC-machined internal Delrin mandrels and multi-port vacuum nesting jigs that support the exact internal wall contours of the part, ensuring rigid stability with zero exterior surface marring.
